Self–Similar Crossover in Statistical Physics

چکیده
An analytical method is advanced for constructing interpolation formulae for complicated problems of statistical mechanics, in which just a few terms of asymptotic expansions are available. The method is based on the self–similar approximation theory, being its variant where control functions are defined from asymptotic crossover conditions. Several examples from statistical physics demonstrate that the suggested method results in rather simple and surprisingly accurate formulae. PACS: 02.30.Lt, 05.20-y, 11.10.Hi

Optimal paths in disordered media: scaling of the crossover from self-similar to self-affine behavior.
We study optimal paths in disordered energy landscapes using energy distributions of the type P(log(10) E)=const that lead to the strong disorder limit. If we truncate the distribution, so that P(log(10) E)=const only for E(min) < or =E < or =E(max), and P(log(10) E)=0 otherwise, we obtain a crossover from self-similar (strong disorder) to self-affine (moderate disorder) behavior at a path leng...
متن کاملCrossover phenomena in spin models with medium-range interactions and self-avoiding walks with medium-range jumps.
We study crossover phenomena in a model of self-avoiding walks with medium-range jumps, which corresponds to the limit N-->0 of an N-vector spin system with medium-range interactions. In particular, we consider the critical crossover limit that interpolates between the Gaussian and the Wilson-Fisher fixed point. The corresponding crossover functions are computed by using field-theoretical metho...
متن کاملCrossover from ballistic to diffusive thermal transport in quantum Langevin dynamics study of a harmonic chain connected to self-consistent reservoirs.
Through an exact analysis using quantum Langevin dynamics, we demonstrate the crossover from ballistic to diffusive thermal transport in a harmonic chain with each site connected to Ohmic heat reservoirs. The temperatures of the two heat baths at the boundaries are specified from the beginning, whereas the temperatures of the interior heat reservoirs are determined self-consistently by demandin...
متن کاملNumerical study of multilayer adsorption on fractal surfaces.
We report a numerical study of van der Waals adsorption and capillary condensation effects on self-similar fractal surfaces. An assembly of uncoupled spherical pores with a power-law distribution of radii is used to model fractal surfaces with adjustable dimensions. We find that the commonly used fractal Frankel-Halsey-Hill equation systematically fails to give the correct dimension due to cros...
متن کاملAnomalous critical behavior in the polymer collapse transition of three-dimensional lattice trails.
Trails (bond-avoiding walks) provide an alternative lattice model of polymers to self-avoiding walks, and adding self-interaction at multiply visited sites gives a model of polymer collapse. Recently a two-dimensional model (triangular lattice) where doubly and triply visited sites are given different weights was shown to display a rich phase diagram with first- and second-order collapse separa...
